#111: Wi-Fi Country

A few months ago I read in the news about a USAID project in Macedonia to connect all public schools in the country to a wi-fi network, effectively making Macedonia the first wi-fi country in the world. It even has country tourist ads in The Economist claiming so, although the project is not complete. I don't know how successful the project is, it is seems a great initiative. Kyrgyzstan , or at least Bishkek, could do a similar thing.

Here in Mongolia there are several iniatives to connect schools and villages to the internet, and also there is WIFI in the main (Sukhbataar) Square(too bad you can't sit outside when it's -40C). The real problem is a lack of IT professionals and knowledge about how the internet works. Not to mention the fact that all of these things take up keep! Those are the biggest problems I see here. Is it the same in Kyrgyzstan?

A few years ago we had initiatives on providing all the schools with computers, but internet was not mentioned, I think mainly because it was expensive then.
We don't have free wi-fi anywher ein the country. There are some hotspots in hotels, shopping centers, and cafes, but they cost around $5-6 per hour. I don't think we have lack of IT specialists. Our big problem is that they are leaving Kyrgyzstan, even to Kazakhstan, for better payment.
